CODEX and RCN Trainings

  • Keep It Colorado P.O. Box 16280 Golden, CO 80402 (map)

Keep It Colorado is hosting a series of trainings on the Resilient and Connected Networks Tool (RCN) and Colorado Data Explorer (CODEX) in January and February. We have partnered with The Nature Conservancy and the Colorado Natural Heritage Program to offer these trainings as a key component of our Statewide Private Lands Conservation Plan.

We’ve designed these two-hour trainings to be relevant both to organizational leadership and to the practitioners who will use these tools directly in their work.

Not sure which region you're in? View region map here
If you're unable to attend the training scheduled for your region, feel free to join a different one. We'll be featuring a parcel or property that is unique to each region, otherwise the format will be the same across trainings.

Who’s eligible to attend?

While primarily developed to serve members of Keep It Colorado, we are making this opportunity open to all participants of our recent listening tours, during which we collected extremely valuable input to the Statewide Private Lands Conservation Plan from a variety of stakeholders from all corners of the state. We also invite any other practitioners and conservation leaders in Colorado who are interested in exploring the use of these tools in their conservation work.

Why and what

The Statewide Private Lands Conservation Plan will include CODEX- and RCN-generated maps that identify conservation priorities across the state and showcase opportunities for conservation work in each region. We hope the community will leverage these tools to help meet our collectively defined goals in the plan, including goals around climate resiliency. We anticipate that in addition being useful to your conservation work and creating a map of conservation priorities, funders may use the plan and its maps to help guide and define projects of statewide significance to potentially fund.

Here is a glimpse at what we’ll cover:

  • Brief overview of the tools and how they work together

  • Brief overview of how the tools will be utilized in the PLCP, and how they can be used by individual organizations to implement the PLCP

  • CODEX technical training, including tool demo and case study

  • RCN technical training, including tool demo and case study

What to expect:

  • Trainings will start with general overview information for all audiences; the second portion will focus on technical information for practitioners

  • Trainings will be designed with each region in mind, and will feature region-specific parcels or landscapes in scenarios

  • Trainings will be workshop-style – please come prepared to actively participate and “play” with the tools

  • Both CODEX and RCN will be featured in each training

  • Trainings will be virtual to enable greater participation

Presenters include:

  • Melissa Daruna and Linda Lidov of Keep It Colorado

  • David Anderson and Michael Menefee of Colorado Natural Heritage Program (CODEX)

  • Drew Rayburn and Paige Lewis of The Nature Conservancy (RCN)
